Position Description

We are seeking a microbiologist with a petroleum industry background to join the Technical Services Division of the Research and Development Center.

The Technical Services Division is responsible for providing added-value technical support, introduce cost-effective technologies, and conduct advanced analytical characterizations for Saudi Aramco operations and research teams, to increase Saudi Aramco’s competitive advantage, maximize profitability, improve asset integrity, and protect health and the environment.

The microbiologist primary role is to support technical service and research activities, to develop microbial control strategies for both surface and subsurface systems. The successful candidate will carry out short- and long-term original studies related to biofouling, microbial plugging and souring, microbial Induced corrosion investigation and prediction, and microbial risk assessment and mitigation.

Minimum Requirements

As a successful candidate, you will hold a B.S. degree in a science/engineering background. An M.S. or Ph.D. degree in microbiology, biology, or a bioscience discipline from a recognized and approved program is preferred.

You will have 13 years of industrial experience related to microbiology applications with the petroleum industry. You must have evidence of leading technical service and research activities in petroleum microbiology. You will also have evidence of professional experience and skills in conventional and molecular microbiology techniques, such as microbial cultivation, isolation, enumeration, identification, and characterization, bioinformatics, and high-throughput biocide screening. Knowledge in standardization and accreditations of microbiology laboratories is also necessary. You will also have experience in project management, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will be required to perform the following:

Conduct short- and long-term original studies related to biofouling, microbial plugging, microbial souring, microbial induced corrosion investigation, and prediction.

Introduce or adapt new field technologies for real-time microbial/biocide monitoring technologies.

Practice conventional and molecular microbiology technologies to solve industrial microbiological problems in oilfield and industrial water systems. Practice project management tools in setting project objectives, detailing experimental scope, managing the requested fund, and build effective teams to enhance the technical and professional skills of junior scientists and engineers.

Identify new laboratory requirements and detail specifications of the needed equipment to expand the current capabilities.

Contribute to the Center’s intellectual capital by submitting journal publications, patents, and technical reports.
