We are seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join the Technical Services Division (TSD) of King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture. The Center is a 21st Century iconic cultural facility that is multidisciplinary, combining art and science, with a mission focusing on advancing knowledge, creativity and cross-cultural engagement.
The TSD is responsible for Application Management, Computing & Communication Management, Information Protection, Technology & Service Management, and Facility Operation and Maintenance.
The Fire Protection Engineers primary role is to lead a team to operate and maintain building fire sprinkler systems, fire water systems, fire hoses, fire pumps, gaseous fire suppression systems, wet chemical fire suppression systems, foam fire suppression systems and passive fire protection measures.
As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Safety Engineering. Alternately you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical, preferably with a post-graduate certificate/diploma or MS in Fire Engineering, Fire Protection, or Fire Safety Engineering.
You will have minimum of 9 years working experience as senior project engineer for medium and large buildings and facilities such as universities and museums or cultural facilities that consist of complex fire protection systems of which at least 2 years as Project Design Engineer.
You will also have good understanding and experience in all life safety related engineering systems including Fire protection and integration with other building components.
You must have a full knowledge of fire alarm system from conventional to the latest state of the art analogue addressable fire detection & alarm systems, emergency and exit lights, and passive fire protection measures.
You must be knowledgeable in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting fire protection systems central monitoring stations, must be able to interpret all data produced from these systems and able to recommend appropriate action based on sound engineering.
You must be able to revise new design approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and NFPA and IBC fire codes.
NFPA certification is preferred.
You must be fluent both in written and spoken English and be able to communicate effectively and able to demonstrate operational and administrative skills, including scheduling and planning.
Duties and Responsibilities
You will be required to perform the following:
Perform operation and maintenance activities of fire protection systems at newly installed facilities, or upgraded systems of existing facilities. Act as a quality assurance expert in the field of mechanical engineering systems and procedures.
Produce fire protection designs for commercial structures, light industrial, institutional, and museums.
Inspect existing system, determines its condition, and verifies record and drawings for accuracy.
Develop design calculations and requirements for commercial, light industrial, and museums.
Determine design requirements for fire detection and alarm, mechanical fire pumps, fire protection and suppression or electrical systems as applicable.
Identify standard details and develops new details required.
Ability to use leading industry fire protection software calculation programs.
